This year Olympics will be held live in Vancouver City in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Other competition venues are Cypress Mountain, Pacific Coliseum, Richmond Olympic Oval, UBC Winter Sports Centre, Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre, Whistler Blackcomb ski resort, Richmond Olympic Oval, and Whistler Olympic Park.

In behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, queen of 16 sovereign countries, the 27th Governor General of Canada Michaelle Jean will officially open the event.

The 2010 Winter Olympics is the first Olympic event to be held indoors. The Vancouver Winter Olympics ceremony is the most expensive in any Winter Olympics and the second most expensive event after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
