The Hurt Locker Beats Avatar With 6 Awards At 2010 Oscars

Kathryn Bigelow wore a metallic grey floor-length gown with two sparkly bands on her index finger.

James Cameron’s masterpiece, “Avatar,” was beaten at the 2010 Oscars by his ex-wife’s low budget war drama “The Hurt Locker.” Despite of being the highest grossing film of all time and passed the $2 billion mark in world-wide grosses, the sci-fi film is no match with the Bigelow’s war film.

“Avatar” only got three awards – Rick Carter and Robert Stromberg and Kim Sinclair for “Best Ar Direction,” Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum, Richard Baneham and Andrew R. Jones for “Best Visual Effect,” and Mauro Fiore for “Best Cinematography.”

“The Hurt Locker” received six Academy Awards – Paul N.J. Ottosson and Ray Beckett for “Best Sound Mixing,” another award for Paul N.J. Ottosson for “Best Sound Editing,” Chris Innis and Bob Murawski for “Best Film Editing,” Mark Boal for “Best Original Screenplay,” “Best Picture” and Kathryn Bigelow for “Best Director.” Bigelow made history in Oscars for she becomes the first woman to win best director.

Bigelow thanked Mark Boal for the outstanding script, She said that it made her won the “Best Director” award. She also dedicated hthe award to the soldiers who were assigned in Iraq and Afghanistan

“This really is, there’s no way to describe it. It’s the moment of a lifetime. And, of course, I’d love to just think of myself as a filmmaker, and I long for the day when a modifier can be a moot point. But I’m ever grateful if I can inspire some young, intrepid, tenacious male or female filmmaker and have them feel that the impossible is possible and never give up on your dream.”
