The 2009 Bambi Awards Winners: Kate Winslet, Shakira, Christoph Waltz, Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko

The 2009 Bambi awarding ceremony was held at Filmpark Babelsberg yesterday, November 26, 2009, in Potsdam, Germany. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg honours Uli Hoeness with the ward for “Economy” while Aram Radomski, Christoph Wonneberger, and Siegbert Schefke received the “Silent Heroes” award.

Another special awards were received by Jurgen Schulz, founder of the hospice Sonnenhof in Pankow, this year’s Bambi Award winner in the category of “commitment” and Wolfgang Joop, founder of the fashion and cosmetics company “JOOP,” who won the “Special Jury Prize.” Former Federal Minister of Finance, Theodor Waigel awarded the Bambi Millenium to Helmut Kohl while actress Gudrun Landgrebe presented the Bambi Lifetime Achieve Award to the Academy Award-winning Austrian actor Maximilian Schell.

Kate Winslet is the brightest star at Bambi where she won the International Actress award. It was presented to her by her fellow artist in their 2008 movie “The Reader,” Bruno Ganz. Bruno played Professor Rohl while Kate played Hanna Schmitz in the said movie.

For the “Bambi International Actor” award, Christoph Waltz won for his portrayal of Col. Hans Landa in the film Inglourious Basterds. The said award is presented by Suzanne Borsody.

German actress and model Bettina Zimmermann and German actor Michael Mendl presented the “Best National Actress” award to Jessica Schwarz for her title role in “Romy” while Anna Loos and Jurgen Prochnow presented the “Best national Actor” Award to Edgar Selge for his role in “Jenseits der Mauer.”

Speaking of films, The “Best National Film” award goes to “Vicky the Viking” which is a film directed by Michael Bully Herbig while the film “Krupp – A German family” (Eine deutsche Familie) won the “Viewers Choice” award where it received 25 percent of total votes. Susanne and Dieter Kronzucker presented the award to the main actors of the film, Iris Berben and Benjamin Sadler, and director Carlo Rola.

When it comes to music, the famous Colombian singer Shakira take home the “International Pop” award which was awarded by the famous heavy metal/hard rock band -Scorpions, while German rock band from Bautzen, Saxony, Silver Moon, won the “National Pop” award which was presented by Comedian Mittermeier Meier.

Track and field gold medalist Edwin Moses presented the trophy to Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko brothers for  excellence in Sports field. Vitali is the current WBC world heavyweight champion while Wladimir currently holds the IBO, IBF, Ring Magazine, and WBO world heavyweight titles.

Caroline Link, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, Oliver Hirschbiegel, Michael Ballhaus, and Roland Emmerich accepted the “Honorary” award in the “German in Hollywood” category.

Charlene Wittstock presented the Bambi award for creativity. Giorgio Armani won in this category but he was not able to attend the awards show so his niece Roberta Armani accepted the award.
