The first victim was identified as 57 year-old Marion Auril O’Hara who died after 1,600ft cliff towering above the said beach collapsed and the second victim is a 34 year-old British holidaymaker. Her named was not yet released by the authorities and they can’t tell whether her family is on the beach at the time of the landslide or not.

150 rescue workers tried to rescue the British woman but its too late. Both victims were said to be sunbathing when the cliff collapsed. There were still no official reports from the police whether there are other victims aside from the two tourists.

According to local mayor Juan Damian Gorrmn, he have insisted local authorities to put warning signs on that area. One of the coastguard said that he had tried to stop people sunbathing there but witnesses and other locals said that Tenerife officials failed to warn sunbathers. They said that they just cordoned off the area. They said that they just put a piece of builder’s tape but tape has been broken over the last couple of days.

Council chiefs in the nearby town of Santiago del Teide held a meeting to investigate allegations of negligence for this was the second landslide that happened in the same area and the first one had taken place on October 7, 2009. They were going to check the causes of this landslide so for now they closed Los Gigantes beach and will be open again once the area has been made safe.
