State Of Emergency Declared In Delaware, Yonkers, New Jersey, Maryland, And Wilkes-Barre Due To Winter Storm

Governor Jack A. Markell, current governor of Delaware, declared a “State of Emergency” in Delaware today, February 10, 2010, at 12:01 a.m, due to the severe winter storm. Heavy snowfall, whiteout conditions, gusty winds, and minor flooding were being experienced by the State of Delaware so Markell called for “State Of Emergency.” About  21 inches of snow was recorded by the National Weather Service which causes some roads to become impassable.

According to this law, Gov. Markell authorized delaware Emergency Management Agency, Delaware State of Police and Delaware Department of Transportation to close roads and bridges to ensure public safety. Therefore, no motor vehicles are to be operated on the road except for vehicles operated by peace officers, rescue teams, medical teams, media, emergency personnel, utility personnel,employees of health care facilites and correctional institutions, and drivers of commercial motor vehicles that transport commodities.

In addition to that, local officials are directed to tow abandoned vehicles on the road. Parking in emergency route was prohibited

As of now, “State of Emergency” is still in effect and there no further notice as to when it will be removed. New Jersey, Maryland, city of Yonkers, and city of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvannia are also under “State of Emergency.”
