Somer Renee Thompson is a 7-year old girl who disappeared last October 19, 2009 while walking home from her school, Grove Park Elementary School, in Orange Park. She was having a dispute with her twin brother, then her ten year old sister told her to stop. She became upset, walked ahead of the group and wasn’t seen again. Amber Alert was just issued the next day because no one have witnessed an abduction. Yes, even though the area were Somer disappeared is heavily populated, no one have seen her on that day.
Speculations arised if she had fallen into something, went to different place because of anger and lost her way back home, or someone abducted her.
Her mother, Diena Thompson, her father, Sam Thompson, and her aunt Laura Holt are waiting and hoping that Somer is still alive. Their neighbors gathered across the street and participates in candlelight vigil as search for Somer and placed flowers under a tree. They showed their support to Thompson family and all were hoping that Somer is safe and will come back home.
Body Found In Georgia Is Not Somer But Birthmark Matches
Investigators of this case have followed garbage trucks leaving from the neighborhood where Somer Thompson disappeared. Then yesterday, they found a body of a child in Georgia landfill near the Florida. Thompson family was hoping it was not Somer. The investigators cannot determined if the body was female or male but they said it has circular birthmark on its leg that matches the “odd-shaped” birthmark on his Somer’s left shin. But there were no official reports stating that the body found in Georgia landfill is Somer. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy on this body today to confirm whether it is Somer’s body or not.
So for now, the body found in Georgia landfill is not Somer.
