LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was disappointed with his team performance but was infuriated by the decision of referee Andre Marriner. He questioned whether Marriner had enough experience of being part of the official’s on Sunday’s game.
“Liverpool were better.”
- Sir Alex Ferguson

Though he admitted that Liverpool’s performance is better than his team on that game, he believes that his team suffered the injustices at Marriner’s hands. Manchester United center-back Nemanja Vidic was sent off for two yellow cards he have received at 75 and at 90 minutes of the game. He said that defender Jamie Carragher should have been dismissed and not Vidic. The team was very disappointed when the referee didn’t give penalty to Jamie Carragher who cracked center midfielder Michael Carrick. They were also upset that the Liverpool centre-back was not shown a red card when he appeared to haul down Michael James Owen, who was roundly booed upon entering from the bench.
“The Vidic booking was the worst decision. It is a foul, fine. But the player has played on, he won the second ball and knocked it for a throw in and got booked. It put Nemanja under pressure.”
- Sir Alex Ferguson
Sir Alex said that the referee was being swayed by the audience. He said that the atmosphere in the field was being electrified by the crowd and he saw that when Vidic got his first yellow card.
