Seth Wescott, considered as hometown hero in Farmington, defended his Olympic title making him as the two-time Olympic champion in the snowboard cross.
The 33-year old from Maine won the gold medal on Monday, February 15. It’s second gold medal for USA which leads them to the top spot of this year’s Winter Olympics.
According to Wescott, he’s not really looking for a miracle at all. He knew he made some mistakes in the earlier round but he said to himself that he can win if he will just execute it correctly.
Wescott brought the same flag he held four years ago in Turin and he said that it motivates him to win. He wanted the flag to be there in his winning moment.
Fellow American Nate Holland finished at 4th place. He has an issue with the Canadian team, who are wearing slightly slimmer pants than the U.S. He said:
“I’m a snowboarder through and through, and boardercross is a freestyle snowboarder’s race. I think it should stay that way.” Right, because it wouldn’t be snowboarding if people wore tight pants.”
Mike Robertson of Canada got the silver medal while Tony Ramoin of France got the bronze medal. Wescott and Robertson were just centimeters apart through the middle portion of the race, with Robertson jumping ahead late. Wescott caught up on the final turn, passing Robertson to finish first.
