Bob Arum, Top Rank Promoter, told the press that due to serious cuts that Miguel Cotto received during his fight with Manny Pacquiao earlier, he will not be able to attend the post fight press conference. The Nevada State Athletic Commission’s attending physician advised him to go to UMC Trauma Center in Charleston to undergo a full body scan. Although, Cotto was not in the press conference, he wanted to tell everybody that he did his very best during his fight with Pacquiao. He also wanted to express his deep gratitude to all the media for the great fight coverage and he hopes that everybody enjoyed the fight.
Arum can’t deny the fact that he was stunned by Pacquiao’s preformance and for that he consider Pacquiao as the greatest fighter of all time. He even compared Pacquiao to Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Arum then said that he didn’t believe to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley’s trash talks. Those two fighters always told the press and all the boxing fans that they will fight the winner in Pacquiao-Cotto fight. They both boasted that they are the greatest fighters in the boxing ring but he was wondering why they didn’t call him to challenge Pacquiao. He also told the press that he was shocked when he found out that Mosley signed a contract to fight Andre Berto in 2010 last Friday, November 13, for he thought that Mosley wanted to face the winner in Pacquiao-Cotto fight. He said that Pacquiao-Mosley would be an interesting fight but he was scratching his head and asking why Mosley turned back. He asked where is Mayweather who always wanted to have a fight with Pacquiao. He said that if Mayweather wants to challenge Pacquiao then he knows whom to call. Now, Arum concluded that none of these fighters were strong and brave enough to face Pacquiao. He made a statement that Pacquiao is open to fight anybody.
After Arum’s speech, Freddie Roach gave a short message to all the press. He just thanked them and all the people who watched the fight. Pacquiao was called and stood up to answer all the questions from the press.
Pacquiao explained to everybody why he was not throwing lot of punches like what Cotto did in the first round. He said that he’s still testing Cotto’s ability and measuring Cotto’s power that’s why he was very careful during the early rounds. Even though Arum compared him to the greatest fighters in the boxing history, Pacquiao humbly said that he doesn’t want to compare his achievements to other fighters because he always think that he’s an ordinary fighter. He also admitted that he was hurt by Cotto’s punches. He said that Cotto is strong and he pointed his eyes and his ears covered with bandage. But then Pacquiao, didn’t say anything about his next opponent. He didn’t mention any boxer and he said that Bob Arum will take care of that. If you’ll notice even with the post interview with Larry Merchant while he’s on the ring earlier, he didn’t really mention any name. He just said that his plans for now is to take a break with his family.
