President of the Academy, Tom Sherak, together with actress Anne Hathaway announced the official list of the 2010 Oscars nominees earlier at 8 a.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.
2010 OSCARS MAJOR AWARDS NOMINEES
The all-time blockbuster movie “Avatar” by James Cameron and the American war thriller “The Hurt Locker” have 8 nominations, the most number of Oscar nomination. Quentin Tarantino’s war film “Inglourious Basterds” got 8 nominations, Lee Daniel’s drama film “Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire” and another novel adaptation “Up in the Air” got 6 nominations, Golden Globe Awards Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Score “Up” got 5 nominations, while “District 9,” “Star Trek,” and “Nine” got 4 nominations.
The autobiographical memoir “An Education,” Scott Cooper’s musical-drama film “Crazy Heart,” Disney’s 49th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics line “The Princess and the Frog” and the historical film based on Queen Victoria’s young life “The Young Victoria” received three nominations.
“A Serious Man,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox, “Invictus,” “The Messenger,” “The Last Station,” “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus,” “Sherlock Holmes,” “The White Ribbon,” and “The Blind Side” received two nominations.
There were 10 nominees for “Best Picture” award and these are “A Serious Man,” “An Education,” 2010 Golden Globe “Best Motion Picture (Drama)” “Avatar,” District 9,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire,” “The Blind Side,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Up,” and “Up in the Air.”
Jason Reitman (Up in the Air), Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), Lee Daniels (Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire), Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds) and 2010 Golden Globe “Best Director” James Cameron (Avatar) will compete for the “Best Director” category.
Colin Firth (A Single Man), George Clooney (Up in the Air), Morgan Freeman (Invictus), Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) and the 2010 Golden Globe “Best Drama Actor” Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) will compete for the “Best Actor” category.
Carey Mulligan (An Education), Gabourey Sidibe (Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire)
Helen Mirren (The Last Station), 2010 Golden Globe “Best Comedy Actress” Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia) and 2010 Golden Globe “Best Drama Actress” Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) will compete for the “Best Actress” category.

I’m sorry but Coraline being included in this lineup is a just lame. Coraline was a terrible film. How a film can be so busy and boring at the same time is astounding.
