Newcastle’s stadium, St. James Park, already has a new name. Managing director Derek Llambias announced today that their famous stadium will bear owner of the club’s company name. They will name it sportsdirect.com @ St James’ Park Stadium until the end of the season. This will be temporary and in an interview made by BBC, they said that they are sure that they can get a bidder or sponsor by the next season.
Mike Ashley, owner of Newcastle United F.C., said that the stadium naming rights failed to find an outside bidder so they they have re-branded the stadium with the name of his own company. Even though Newcastle fans did not like to change the name of the stadium, the management is still determined to sell the club’s stadium naming rights to raise funds to clear debts of the club.
As of today, Ashley is still looking to sell the Newcastle United F.C. club. because since he got it, he has suffered huge losses. He bought the club for £135 plus £120 for the club’s debts. He also said that the club is still costing him £20 million every year. From £100 million, the club’s price is down to £80 million.
The Newcastle team should now take a move to gain buyers or sponsors in the market because this would largely help them to raise their fund.
