The controversial Meredith Kercher murder case, which has been the main focus of people in US, United Kingdom, and Italy, continues as it reached its two years of being an unsolved case yesterday.
Rudy Hermann Guede is a 20 year-old man from the Ivory Coast has already been convicted of murder and was given a penalty of 30 years of imprisonment after he requested for speedy trial. Two big evidences pushed him to be imprisoned. The first one is the DNA tests which proves that he had sex with Kercher before her murder and second, that feces found in the toilet were his.
Now the two suspects, 20 year-old Amanda Knox from USA and her former boyfriend 23 year-old Raffaele Sollecito from Italy are still on trial. The jury is still checking all the evidences that makes Knox and Sollecito involved in Kercher’s murder case. The two were arrested on November 6, 2007. Knox told the police that she is inside the house when the murder took place. She also said in her first statements to the police that she heard her friend Kercher screams. But as days passed by, she have made several versions of the events of the night of the murder. And then she came out with her final statement that she spent the whole evening with her boyfriend and having smoked marijuana on the day of the murder.
There are many things that have happened as the trial goes for two years. The knife which was found by the investigators was said to have played a major role in the murder. Though Dr. Carlo Torre, leading forensics expert in Italy, testified that the knife taken from Sollecito’s house does not match the size or shape of the Kercher’s wounds, DNA proves that Knox’s DNA is on the handle and that of Kercher is on the blade. Prosecutors said that even though the knife doesn’t match with Kercher’s wounds, they strongly believed that the knife is part of the murder.
Sollecito was part of the trial and prosecutors showed an evidence that proves that he is somehow connected in the murder because his DNA was found on a piece of Kercher’s bra. Sollecito came from an influential family and some newspapers like La Repubblica and Tiscali reported that his family have contacted powerful politicians to contaminate the police samples.
Aside from Rudy Hermann Guede, prosecutors believed that Knox and Sollecito is part of this murder case. They said that there are some proofs that Knox, Sollecito, and Guede took part in the murder during a “sex game” in which Ms Kercher was forced to her knees as an unwilling participant. The trial still goes on and the head of the Supreme Court will have his final decision and will announce a verdict this December of 2009.
