Maelle Danica Ricker of Canada won the gold medal in Ladies’ Snowboard Cross category. The 31-year old from Vancouver placed 4th in Women’s Snowboard Cross event at the 2006 Winter Olympics but she finally reached her dream after winning the gold medal in this year’s Winter Olympics.
Ricker is the top-ranked rider in the world this year and became the first Canadian woman, to win Olympic gold on home soil. Coaches Rene Brunner, Tim Milne, and Marcel Matthieu are very happy for her.
Ricker expected Lindsey Jacobellis of United States to be her main rival in the final round but Jacobellis didn’t make it. Jacobellis wants to redeem herself but her trip to Vancouver was even worse and she just landed in fifth place.
Deborah Anthonioz of France, who took the 10th place in 2006 Winter Olympics, won the silver medal while Olivia Nobs of Switzerland won the bronze medal. Nobs had a tight game with Helene Olafsen of Norway. She lost her balance during the final race on Cypress Mountain but she quickly went back on track and shortly before the last jump, Olafsen crashed again, putting her in the third place.
Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France is on the sixth place, Mellie Francon is on the seventh place, and Zoe Gillings is on the eight place.
