Kelly Pavlik, the current The Ring, WBC, and WBO middleweight champion, will be back on the boxing ring to face Miguel Angel Espino on December 19, 2009. He signed a contract last Monday, November 16.
This is Pavlik’s third title defense and this time against Espino who currently hold the WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) middleweight title. Trainer Jack Loew says that the injury to his left hand is going better so there’s no problem about that. If you’ll remember, Pavlik should face Paul Williams but because of his infected knuckle, he can’t put gloves on and Pavlik co-manager Cameron Dunkin said that this will take weeks to heal so they have to move the fight scheduled last October 3. But that doesn’t happen anymore. Pavlik’s camp said that they will fight Williams next if Williams will win against Sergio Gabriel Martinez on December 5.
Espino’s trainer John Bray is exultantly proud to the upcoming fight. He said that Pavlik’s camp underestimated Espino. He said that the camp chose Espino because they know that Espino has weak KO rate. The camp has nothing to be worried because they did not consider Espino as a serious threat to dethrone Pavlik. It is also said that the camp really choose not too good fighter and turned down heavy hitters like Paul Williams. But what Bray can say is that they are just going to play their game and make the most out of their opportunity.
