A two-storey LEGO house located at the Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, Surrey which is composed of 3.3 million plastic bricks, was demolished last September 22, 2009. This LEGO house is built for episode 6 of James May’s Toy Stories TV series.
Thousands of volunteers cooperated to help build this project. On August 1, 2009, chosen volunteers started building the house. This project was completed on September 17, 2009 and later they attempted to sell it as a public attraction in Britain, but they ended up without a buyer. They also planned it to sell on Legoland in Windsor, Berkshire but the cost of dismantling and reassembling of this LEGO house was too expensive (£50,000). Another reason why the house was demolished is because it could not remain at Denbies because the vineyard ( the space where it is constructed) needs the land back to harvest its grapes and there was no planning consent.
The bricks used to build the house is said to be donated to the charity.
