THE 2010 GRAMMY AWARDS WINNERS : BEYONCE DOMINATES
Beyonce Knowles, who led the nominees with 10 nominations, set a new record for most Grammy Awards won by a female artist in a single night when she got six awards. She got “Song of the Year,” “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance,” and “Best R&B Song” for “Single Ladies”, “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” for “Halo”, “Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance” for “At Last,” and “Best Contemporary R&B Album” for “I Am … Sasha Fierce.”
Out of eight nominations, Taylor Swift took home 3 awards including “Album of the Year” and “Best Country Album” for her certified 5x Platinum album – “Fearless”, “Best Female Country Vocal Performance” and “Best Country Song” for her ballad teen pop song – “White Horse.”
Black Eyed Peas and the Kings of Leon won three awards. Black Eyed Peas got “Best Short-Form Music Video” award for “Boom Boom Pow,” “Best Pop Performance by a Duo Or Group” (I Gotta Feeling), and their fifth studio album, The E.N.D., won the “Best Pop Vocal Album” defeating Cobie Caillat’s “Breakthrough,” Kelly Clarkson’s “All I Ever Wanted,” The Fray’s “The Fray,” and Pink’s “Funhouse.” Kings of Leon won the “Record of the Year,” “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals,” and “Best Rock Song” for their song “Use Somebody.”
Lady Gaga won the “Best Dance Recording” for her song “Poker Face,” and “Best Electronic/Dance Album” (The Fame). Zac Brown Band won the “Best New Artist” award while Jason Mraz won the “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” for his song “Make It Mine,” and “Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals” with Colbie Caillat for their song “Lucky.”
Other winners include Bela Fleck who won the “Best Pop Instrumental Performance” for “Throw Down Your Heart,” Booker T. Jones won the “Best Pop Instrumental Album” for “Potato Hole,” Bruce Springsteen won the “Best Rock Solo Vocal Performance” for “Working On A Dream,” AC/DC won “Best Hard Rock Performance” for “War Machine,” Judas Priest won the “Best Metal Performance” for “Dissident Aggressor,” Jeff Beck won Best Rock Instrumental Performance” for “A Day in the Life,” Green Day won the “Best Rock Album” (21st Century Breakdown), Phoenix got the “Best Alternative Music Album” for “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix,” Maxwell got the “Best Male R&B Vocal Performance” for “Pretty Wings,” and “Best R&B Album” for “BLACKsummers’night,” Jamie Foxx & T-Pain got the “Best R&B Performance By a Duo/Group W/ Vocals” for “Blame It,” India.Arie & Dobet Gnahore got the “Best Urban/Alternative Performance” for “Pearls,” Jay-Z got the “Best Rap Solo Performance” for “D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune), “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” and “Best Rap Song” together with Rihanna and Kanye West for their song “”Run This Town,” Eminem got the “Best Rap Album” (Relapse) and “Best Rap Performance by a Duo/Group” together with Dr. Dre & 50 Cent for “Crack A Bottle,” Keith Urban got the “Best Male Country Vocal Performance” for “Sweet Thing,” Lady Antebellum got the “Best Country Performance by a Duo/Group With Vocals” for “I Run to You,” Carrie Underwood & Randy Travis got the “Best Country Collaboration w/ Vocals” for their song “I Told You So,” Steve Wariner got the “Best Country Instrumental Performance” for his song “”Producer’s Medley,” and many more.
For films, West Side Story was awarded as the “Best Musical Show Album,”and Slumdog Millionaire won the “Best Compilation Soundtrack Album” including the “Jaiho” song which won the “Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media.”
The computer-animated comedy-drama “Up” which won the “Best Animated Feature Film” and “Best Original Score” in the 2010 Golden Globe award also got two awards in this year’s Grammy Awards. Soundtrack composer of “Up” film, Michael Giacchino, got the “Best Score Soundtrack Album” and “Best Instrumental Composition” (Married Life).
