Dexter-TV-Show-Influenced-Indiana-Teenager-To-Kill-His-BrotherShowtime’s Dexter television drama series is getting a lot of viewers and fans these days. What do you expect with this TV show? Some of the people who idolize the character of “Dexter” is using the show in a bad way. Dexter won two Emmys in technical categories: Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, and despite of calling him a serial killer, he was still considered a hero with a heart of gold.

There are some serious crimes that happened and most of the killers admitted that they imitate the character of Dexter like  the 17-year-old Andrew Conley from Indiana. Andrew killed his 10 year-old brother named Conner, while they were left home alone last Saturday in Ohio. He confessed to police that he took his cues from the serial killer TV show Dexter. He illustrated to the police how he murdered his brother. He said that he placed his younger brother in a headlock until he lost consciousness. After that, he choke his brother for twenty minutes until the blood comes out from his brother’s mouth. He also said that he taped his brother’s head with a plastic bag, dragged him down the stairs and smashed his head several times. It was not clear whether his brother’s skull is broken because of this gruesome murder. Andrew said he then drove and dumped his brother’s body to Rising Sun City Park, near the elementary school where his brother was in the fifth grade.

“I just feel like him.”

Andrew was taken to the Dearborn County Juvenile Detention Center in Lawrenceburg but was transferred  to Switzerland County Jail in Vevay on Thursday night. According to Cincinnati.com, after Andrew killed his brother he felt good and was very happy that he went to his girlfriend’s house and gave her a ring. He left at 11 PM and at 3 AM his father arrived. Andrew also confessed that he wanted to kill his father, Shawn. His father was interviewed by the police and he said that he remembered that weird behavior of Andrew. He said that he woke up once and saw Andrew staring at him.

Andrew was considered as an evil child by the prosecutors. He did not regret or showed no emotions when he was narrating the crime. He will not be charged of murder because he was still underage but when he reached the right age and if convicted he will spend 65 years in prison.

The same thing happened to a 38-year old man who was killed by TV’s Dexter inspired Alberta filmmaker on 2008. Alberta filmmaker named Mark Twitchell is a Dexter fanatic who decided to write a screenplay about murder, and then murder people that way. He lured Johnny Brian Altinger and promised that he will set him up a date with a lovely lady.

According to canada.com, this is what Edmonton homicide Det. Mark Anstey can tell to Twitchell,

“We have a lot of information that suggests he definitely idolizes Dexter, and a lot of information that he tried to emulate him during this incident.”

The way Dexter kills somebody on the TV show seems to have influence killers and wannabes. How many people  were largely influence by “Dexter” ? It’s not a hero who protects people from Alien invasion or from other criminals.

Should we blame this TV show?

No, it is not the tv show fault. What is unbelievable is how childish and stupid people are… it´s a TV show, it is not real and it will never be!
People nowadays only want to immitate someone and they “start to believe” that they can become that person or just like them…instead of having a life!
But for the loosers is always better to live in illusion (to dream about the dream) then facing the reality.

No the show isn’t to blame but look at the guy he does look like dexters twin.

People blame TV shows because they don’t know who else to blame. Normal people can easily know what’s right.. what’s wrong. If they wanna copy whatever shows that’s on TV, why don’t they copy people from So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol, etc? Copy people who works hard to make their dreams come true.

    You can’t blame TV show.

I like to watch DEXTER too… why I don’t feel like killing other people? – Because normal people watch TV for fun and we know it’s not real.

There’s something wrong with these killer’s mind, not the TV show.

I think internet teaches people how to kill more than TV show.
