Canada Breaks The Record For Most Number of Gold Medals, U.S. Got The Most Number Of Medals

United States is consistent at rank 1 at the 2010 Winter Olympics standings. U.S. Team got 37 medals – 9 golds, 15 silvers, and 13 bronzes. Gold medallists who brought honor to U.S. are Curtis Tomasevicz, Steve Mesler, Justin Olsen, and Steven Holcomb for Bobsleigh (Four Man), Bill Demong for Nordic Combined (Individual LH/10 km CC), Bode Miller for Alpine Skiing (Men’s Super Combined), Evan Lysacek for Men’s Figure Skating, Shaun White for Snowboard (Men’s Halfpipe), Shani Davis for Speed Skating (Men’s 1000 m), Lindsey Vonn for Alpine Skiing (Ladies’ Downhill), Seth Wescott for Snowboard (Men’s Snowboard Cross), and Hannah Kearney for Freestyle Skiing (Ladies’ Moguls).

The U.S. Team also set an all-time American record for most Olympic Winter Games medals won in a single day by capturing six medals – 3 gold, one silver, and 2 bronze on Wednesday, February 17. But even though they lead the 2010 Winter Olympics, they didn’t get the most number of gold medals. The U.S. team got only 9 gold medals compare to Germany which has 10 and Canada which has 14.

Canada ranks on the third place in terms of the highest total number of medals. They got 26 medals – 14 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze. Canada They have won more gold medals in Vancouver than in any Winter or Summer Games. Canada also tied the record for the most gold medals at a Winter Games, set by the Soviet Union in 1976 and equalled by Norway in 2002.

Canadian gold medallist include Jasey Jay Anderson for Snowboard (Men’s Parallel Giant Slalom), Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky, and Denny Morrison for Speed Skating (Men’s Team Pursuit), Charles Hamelin for Short Track Speed Skating (Men’s 500 m), Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse for Women’s Bobsleigh, Ashleigh McIvor for Freestyle Skiing (Ladies’ Ski Cross), Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir for Figure Skating (Ice Dance), Jon Montgomery (Men’s Skeleton), Christine Nesbitt for Speed Skating (Ladies’ 1000 m), Maelle Ricker for Snowboard (Ladies’ Snowboard Cross), Alexandre Bilodeau for Freestyle Skiing (Men’s Moguls), Men’s Curling Team, Women’s Hockey Team, and the Men’s Hockey Team.

Germany accumulated the second-highest total number of medals with 30 medals. Germany got 10 golds, 13 silvers, and 7 bronzes. Gold medallists include Andre Lange and Kevin Kuske for Two-Man Bobsleigh, Stephanie Beckert, Daniela Anschutz Thoms, Katrin Mattscherodt, and Anna Friesinger-Postma for Speed Skating (Ladies’ Team Pursuit), Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle and Claudia Nystad for Cross-Country Skiing (Ladies’ Team Sprint Free), Viktoria Rebensburg for Alpine Skiing (Ladies’ Giant Slalom), Tatjana Huefner for Luge (Women’s Singles), two gold medals from Maria Riesch for Alpine Skiing (Ladies’ Slalom and Ladies’ Super Combined), and another two gold medals from Magdalena Neuner for Biathlon (Women’s 12.5 km Mass Start and Women’s 10 km Pursuit).
