According to Warwickshire chief constable Keith Bristow, burglary, robbery, and theft have increased this April and June compared to the same period last year. Robbery is up by 1 %, burglary by 3%, and theft by 5%. These crimes was said to increase because of economic crisis which England and the whole world is experiencing right now.
From April to June 2009, 67, 000 domestic burglaries were recorded compare to last year which is just 65, 200 the previous year. Therefore, an increase of 1, 800 offences were added this year. Meanwhile, theft is up by 5% from April to June. In overall, an increase of 12,000 theft cases were recorded and bicycle theft is one of the theft cases which soared up to 22% this year.
Policing Minister David Hanson said in a news report today that in order to combat burglaries, robberies, and theifts, they took firm action through a £20 million package, including targeting priority areas not only to help secure 60,000 vulnerable homes but also to provide help for retailers to tackle shoplifting and theft.

Though the rate of theft, robbery, and burglary increases, the overall crime rate in England and Wales is dropped by 4%. Knife-related homicide fell by 35%, down from 71 to 46. Household crime has fallen by 6%.
