American actress and singer, Brittany Murphy, who starred in films such as Clueless, 8 Mile, Sin City, and Happy Feet died yesterday, December 20, 2009, at 10:04 a.m. after going into cardiac arrest. Her mother, Sharon Murphy, found her unconscious in the bathroom around 7:45 in the morning. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at the home she shared with her husband, British screenwriter and producer, Simon Monjack.
According to one of her neighbors, Brittany seems dead while she was on a stretcher. Firefighters brought her to the fire truck and tried to resuscitate her. Her husband wandered around and didn’t know what to do as the firefighters put tubes down his wife’s throat. Brittany was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was pronounced dead on arrival at 10:04 a.m. by Sally Stewart, hospital spokeswoman.
LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said that they were investigating the cause of her death. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said that there’s no foul play and it appears that she died of natural causes. Monjack refused to allow an autopsy for unknown reason but the L.A. County Coroner’s office will still conduct an autopsy.
Fans, co-celebrities, and relatives mourns over her death. Celebrities like Alyssa Milano, Ashton Kutcher, Denise Richards, Fred Durst, Hillary Duff, Josh Groban, Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, Russel Simons, and Brandy are taking to their Twitter accounts to express their grief.
THE SUDDEN DEATH
According to TMZ, Brittany told her family members that she was feeling very sick. It is also reported that she was hooked on prescription drugs like Vicodin which is a narcotic analgesic product used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Brittany’s friends said that series of plastic surgery operations made her dependent on painkillers. This was consider as one of the causes of her sudden death.
Sudden death or sudden cardiac death (SCD) happens when the heart precipitously stops beating. This is what happened to Brittany. Her heart stops beating, lose consciousness and stop normal breathing. Pulse and blood pressure will be absent unless resuscitative efforts are begun immediately. Permanent brain damage and death can occur unless the flow of blood to the brain is restored within five minutes. The firefighters who attempted to resuscitate her arrived too late to save her.
