He then introduced Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense. Gates have worked as Secretary of Defense, Director of Central Intelligence, and National Security Advisor, under President George W. Bush administration. U.S. News & World Report named him as one of America’s Best Leaders. Obama chose him because he have restored accountability when he took over the Pentagon and he have won the confidence and trust of the US military forces. He also said that he will be giving Gates a new missions and that is to end the war in Iraq, to succeed against al Qaeda and Taliban, and end the war on terror in Afghanistan.
President-elect Obama also announced Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. as United States Attorney General under his administration. Obama said that he has the ability to lead the Department of Justice for he is familiar with the law enforcement challenges from terrorism to counter-intelligence and from white collar crime to public corruption.
Aside from Holder Jr., joining his team is Governor Janet Napolitano of Arizona, former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs during President Bill Clinton’s second term Susan Rice and retired United States Marine Corps four-star general James Logan Jones Jr. Governor Janet Napolitano was appointed as Secretary of Homeland Security who will be a leader who can reform a sprawling Department while safeguarding US homeland.
Susan Rice was appointed as United States Ambassador to the United Nations. She is the second youngest and first African American woman United States Representative to the UN. President-elect Obama believes that she will be an effective UN ambassador for she knows global challenges and he have seen her commitment and work dedication during Clinton’s administration.
President-elect Obama have announced the last man who will join his team which is none other than Marine Gen. James Logan Jones Jr. He appointed Marine Gen. Jones as White House national security adviser.
