Ramadan denied the allegations and filed a complaint for slander against one of his accusers, Reuters said.

The allegations emerged late previous year and prompted Ramadan to take a leave of absence from his post at Oxford.

Henda Ayari, a feminist activist and writer who used to practise a conservative strain of Islam, says Ramadan suggested they meet in Paris in 2012 after she contacted him about her decision to stop wearing the veil.

Ramadan, a professor of contemporary Islamic studies at Oxford University, has denied the allegations. The Paris judicial office has confirmed that two separate lawsuits were filed against Ramadan.

She described the alleged assault in her autobiography but at the time, did not name Ramadan to avoid legal issues.

Quiksilver CEO missing after his empty boat washes up on French beach
According to the World Surf League, Agnes left Capbreton Harbor at 7.30am on Tuesday and his boat was found two hours later. His disappearance caused consternation in the surfing community around the world.

Swiss national Ramadan is considered an influential figure among Muslim scholars, but also a controversial one.

Another woman, who has not been named publicly, has accused him of raping her in a hotel in Lyon in 2009.

Ramadan, the grandson of the founder of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood Islamist movement, has furiously denied rape allegations from two women that emerged late past year, as the Harvey Weinstein scandal unfurled in the US.

The allegations against Ramadan emerged in the aftermath of similar accusations made against Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein, which emboldened dozens of women to come forward their own with stories of sexual harassment and assault.

Ramadan lambasted French media, claiming they falsely reported on his situation, and asserted that the accusations against him are part of a "campaign of lies launched by my adversaries".
