Flu-related deaths this season reach 142 in San Diego County

According to hospitalization numbers from the Oklahoma State Department of Health, residents in Oklahoma and Tulsa counties accounted for the most flu hospitalizations in the state.

The number of flu-related deaths this season in San Diego County has reached a record high of 142, county health officials said.

The flu season generally lasts from October through May.

Of those 50 Hoosiers who have died of the flu, 36 of the victims were age 65 or older.

The spread of the flu has led to an increase in hospitalizations by 215, which is an 80 percent increase from the previous week.

The deaths range from a 1-year-old boy in Summit County to a 101-year-old woman in Euclid. That's compared to 14 deaths at the same time a year ago in San Diego County.

The flu continues to take its toll in SC.

Local health experts say this is the worst outbreak in more than decade, with children being especially hit hard.

So far, two people have died from the flu in Denton County. Vaccine effectiveness against H3N2 viruses has been around 30 percent.

If you get sick, look out for severe aches and pains in your muscles and joints, notable fatigue and weakness, headaches and a high fever. "The vaccine helps your body develop protection in two weeks and can lessen severity if one gets the flu".

Public Health Department spokesman John Ricci said "it is hard if not impossible" to pinpoint when flu season will peak.
