US Blocks UN?Vote Calling For Trump To Rescind Jerusalem Decision

The Palestinian presidency condemned on Monday a USA veto of a United Nations resolution on Jerusalem, describing it as a disregard of the worldwide community.

The Egyptian-drafted resolution did not specifically mention the USA or Trump but expressed "deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem".

The United States was certain to veto the Egyptian-sponsored resolution, but its Arab supporters wanted the vote to demonstrate that countries everywhere and even many US allies such as Britain, France and Japan are against Trump's action. "It won't be forgotten", said the US' ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley highlighting that this was Washington's first use of the veto power in more than six years. US Ambassador Nikki Haley who cast the veto slammed the rejected resolution as "an insult".

"The United States will not be told by any country where we can put our embassy", she said after the veto.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately thanked Haley for her stance.

Palestinian Authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said the U.S. veto "represents a complete bias with the [Israeli] occupation and aggression", CNN reports.

US President Donald Trump revealed his new strategic plan noting that for many generations, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been interpreted as the main factor preventing peace in the region.

In a widely anticipated vote, Washington exercised their veto power on Monday to block UN Security council resolution backed by 14 other Council members that would have forced Trump to retract his recent contested declaration over the status of the much-coveted holy city.

"It is in line with previous Security Council resolutions, and we call on all parties to renew efforts in favour of a long and sustained and a sustainable peace in the Middle East".

"We declare our rejection of the United States as a political mediator because it has sided with Israel". Palestinians want the capital of an independent Palestinian state to be in the city's eastern sector, which Israel captured in a war in 1967 and annexed in a move never recognised internationally.

In the fairy tale, can't-we-all-get-along world Mr. Weinstein inhabits, supporting or voting on fancy-sounding proposals is all it takes to make himself feel like a good guy and to fool other people into believing that he is "doing something" when he's not.

With the Palestinians rejecting USA mediation, Russian Federation said it was ready to take over. The settlements are in contravention of the global laws, including the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, which prohibits countries from moving population into territories occupied in a war.

"The United States will continue to play an extremely important role in the search for peace in the Middle East".

The only support for the United States came from Israel.

He said Haley "lit a candle of truth" and dispelled "lies".
