Autopsies being conducted on bodies of Barry and Honey Sherman

A Canadian billionaire and his wife have been found dead at their home in Toronto in circumstances that police described as "suspicious". "We are treating the deaths as suspicious", Toronto Police Constable David Hopkinson said in a phone interview.

Apotex, which called news of the Shermans' deaths "tragic", was recently implicated in a price-fixing scheme with 17 other drug companies and their subsidiaries.

Forbes has estimated Mr. Sherman's fortune at $3.2 billion.

Their Canadian mansion was recently put up for sale, and their bodies were reportedly found by the real estate agent who called police.

Mr Sherman founded the Apotex in 1974 and stepped down as chief executive in 1974. Their bodies were discovered Friday morning, and investigators said there appeared to be no danger to the community at large, and no suspects were being sought.

Sherman is the founder of generic drug-maker Apotex.

Clear viewing (before bedtime) for tonight's Geminid meteor shower
Night-time sky-watchers willing to courageous the cold can look forward to a spectacular display of shooting stars tonight. This particular meteor show is called the Geminids because it seems to radiate from the constellation of Gemini.

The mayor of Toronto John Tory through a prepared statement said he was heartbroken and shocked when he learned of the couple's death, noting the couple had made many contributions to the city. "As employees, we are proud of his tremendous accomplishments, honoured to have known him, and vow to carry on with the Apotex goal in his honour".

Mr. Feldman said family members had told him that Mr. Sherman had not been at work on Thursday, and that no one had heard from his wife that day, either.

The couple was known for their philanthropy, giving tens of millions to hospitals, universities and Jewish organizations, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported. Neighbours confirmed that the property was the couple's home.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended his condolences "to their family and friends, and to everyone touched by their vision and spirit". "Toronto Police are investigating and I hope that investigation will be able to provide answers for all of us who are mourning this tremendous loss".

Police have not released any names but the province's Health Minister Eric Hoskins, tweeted about the deaths writing "I am beyond words right now". Incredible philanthropists, great leaders in health care.
