Twitter 'inadvertently' deleted Trump's account for 11 minutes

Praise for the Twitter employee came from vocal Trump critic Ted Lieu, a Democratic member of Congress, who tweeted: "Dear Twitter employee who shut down Trump's Twitter: You made America feel better for 11 minutes".

The outspoken president has 41.7 million followers on his personal Twitter account, which he uses to blast controversial and attention-grabbing comments. The reason this happened?

Twitter initially said the account had been "inadvertently" deactivated because of human error. Briefly, with no warning or explanation, Donald Trump's Twitter account was wiped from the face of the Earth and replaced with a blissful lack of enraged, poorly spelled projection. "We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again", the company said in an earlier tweet.

The outage sparked discussion of the security of Trump's account, given the potentially dire consequences of messages falsely attributed to the president.

A Twitter employee, on his last day at the job, deactivated the account of Donald Trump on the social network.

Dorsey has had his own problems using Twitter. Twitter said it would be conducting a full internal review.

But quite a few Twitter users admitted they would never forget the "minutes of peace" they had while Trump was offline.

Twitter has struggled in recent months in how it enforces, and explains, its procedures for managing accounts that violate its policies created to prevent hate, harassment and other abuse of the platform. "Bought and paid for by Crooked H.", Trump's tweet read.

With any past president, a tweet like that would immediately be assumed as the result of some sort of hack.

There are easy arguments to be made that he's violated Twitter's terms of service with some of the bad things he's tweeted, including his antagonistic tweets towards North Korea, but Twitter has, so far, made excuses for allowing him to remain active.
