Deposed Catalan leader demands release of ministers

On the same day, Spain's state prosecutor announced he was seeking charges of rebellion, sedition and misuse of public funds against the deposed president and the 13 ex-ministers.

01 de noviembre de 2017, 09:18Madrid, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) The removed president of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, ignores the subpoena he received from the National Court (AN) of Spain to testify on Thursday for alleged crimes of rebelliousness, sedition and embezzlement, his lawyer said today.

Eight sacked Catalan ministers have been remanded in custody by a Spanish high court judge over the region's push for independence. "It is better to take some distance", Paul Bekaert told Reuters, adding that "the climate is not good".

The jailing of the former ministers caused an uproar in Catalonia, where pro-independence protesters filled the streets.

He told Josina Anderson of ESPN that 65-70% of their team would be kneeling and they decided not to remove their decals. Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, an opponent of the Texans on Sunday, also reacted critically to McNair's remarks.

Puigdemont "will not go to Madrid" on Thursday because "he will not have a fair trial" in Spain, Bekaert pointed out in statements quoted by the Belgian TV station NOS and reproduced by media. With Puigdemont and four others in Belgium, only 15 turned up.

Earlier, the Supreme Court suspended until next week the questioning of six Catalan legislators under investigation for rebellion following the declaration of independence.

This led to the Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy dissolving the regional parliament and calling a snap election for December. It was as yet unknown why their hearings were adjourned by the court, which deals with cases involving lawmakers.
