Aviation investor Hans Rudolf Woehrl said he had submitted a bid for the whole of Air Berlin while German family-owned logistics company Zeitfracht has also expressed interest.

The German government was to provide Air Berlin with a bridging loan of 150 million euros ($180 million) to help it to continue operating. "For this reason a number of flights will have to be cancelled today (Tuesday)", the company said in a statement on its website, advising those due to travel on an Air Berlin flight to call a customer service number before arriving at the airport.

Representatives from pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit were not immediately available for comment.

The airline filed for insolvency in August after its main shareholder, Gulf carrier Etihad, withdrew financial support.

Potential investors have until September 15 to submit binding offers for the German airline. At least 32 were canceled Wednesday, though Air Berlin said more pilots were returning. Air Berlin employs approximately 1,500 pilots.

Williams , who made the Australian Open and Wimbledon finals this year, admitted Stephens had edged the crucial points. She broke Stephens in the second and fourth games, hitting a backhand volley victor to go ahead 4-0.

Other airlines, Ryanair included, are already waiting on the outcome of the conflict in an attempt to acquire a portion of Air Berlin's most profitable routes. The allowance may reportedly keep the carrier afloat until mid-November with its German jobs put at risk.

One source has told Reuters that Lufthansa is interested in as many as 90 of Air Berlin's planes.

Air Berlin has accused the absent pilots of "threatening the existence" of the airline, warning that the turmoil could scare off investors.

Ryanair said on Tuesday that Air Berlin could be of interest to the Irish low-priced carrier but it didn't want to wait until after Lufthansa had finished talks.
