Group of GOP senators plan last effort to replace Obamacare

Beneficiary advocates and Democrats who just successfully beat back Republicans' ACA repeal and replace effort wasted no time in blasting health reform legislation introduced Wednesday (Sept. 13) by GOP Sens. That may help win Republican votes, but one pill that will be tough for conservatives to swallow is the bill preserves most Obamacare taxes, though it does repeal the tax on medical devices.

The Democrats' request comes as the Senate Health Committee is holding hearings and negotiating a bipartisan bill aimed at stabilizing ObamaCare markets.

The window for passing this repeal is incredibly narrow: Graham, et.al., only have 17 days to fast-track the legislation with a 51-vote majority.

Eliminating the enhanced federal match provided under the ACA for Medicaid expansion, capping and cutting the federal contribution to Medicaid, replacing guaranteed federal funding with optional block grants, and allowing states to impose work requirements under Medicaid that would cause millions of the most vulnerable to lose coverage. Elizabeth Warren of MA, have already signed on to Mr. Sanders' bill.

Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., called the Sanders bill "a litmus test for the liberal left".

"Right now, if we want to move away from a dysfunctional, wasteful, bureaucratic system into a rational health-care system that guarantees coverage to everyone in a cost-effective way, the only way to do it is 'Medicare for All, '" Sen.

How quickly the Senate could take up health care again is unclear.

Stephens edges Venus to reach US Open final
Williams , who made the Australian Open and Wimbledon finals this year, admitted Stephens had edged the crucial points. She broke Stephens in the second and fourth games, hitting a backhand volley victor to go ahead 4-0.

Dr. Jack Ende, president of the American College of Physicians (ACP), said the proposal fails to meet ACP criteria to ensure that patient health is improved - not harmed - by changes to current law.

One thing is known for sure, Sanders has brought forth, even with a lack of details, the most popular single-payer bill to hit the national political stage. The bill was greeted by a positive but less-than-enthusiastic statement from the president later that day.

"None of these other things, whether it's Bernie's, can really prevail unless we have the Affordable Care Act protected", Pelosi told reporters.

"What does matter is if a governor gets on board", he said.

Like Pelosi, the health insurance industry has some concerns regarding single-payer. Johnson said. "Returning more health care decisions to the states and ensuring equal treatment for states like Wisconsin that spend taxpayer dollars wisely will allow local leaders to tailor their health care system to the needs of its citizens while maintaining protections for those with high cost and pre-existing conditions".

The economy is turning around but health care costs are still spiraling out of control. We should build on private-sector successes, not abandon them.
