Active shooter reported at New Hampshire's biggest hospital

Lebanon Police and the New Hampshire State Police are at the hospital assessing the situation.

A person has been taken into custody after an active shooter threat Tuesday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, police said.

The active-shooter alert at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon forced authorities to issue evacuation and shelter-in-place orders Tuesday afternoon.

The state attorney general's office is investigating. As per police, they are investigating reports of the active shooter.

Darmouth College, an Ivy League school whose main campus is two miles away from the hospital, said that the suspect was a 6-feet-one-inch man in a red camouflage shirt tall with salt and pepper blonde hair.

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Vermont state police assisted New Hampshire and local police. Although law enforcement officials have not confirmed whether the auto was connected to the incident, Rhode Island State Police confirmed to WJAR the SUV belongs to the suspect after authorities contacted them regarding the vehicle's Rhode Island license plates. It is not clear if the lockdown has been lifted.

No further information was immediately available, but the investigation remains ongoing.
