Warner expresses his delight as Cricket Australia reaches consensus

Australian cricket has finally signed off on a new landmark pay deal, ending a bitter and drawn-out saga that's lasted almost 10 months.

The ACA and Cricket Australia (CA) signed an in-principle agreement on Thursday, ending nearly a year of negotiations and ensuring this summer's Ashes will proceed as planned.

But even if the disagreement is resolved, former captain Michael Clarke said on Sunday he feared things would never be the same between CA and the players.

However, it has been confirmed that the players will receive back-pay once the brand new MoU is completed and signed.

Australia are scheduled to arrive on August 18 for a two-Test series with the first Test slated to start on August 27 at the Shere-e-Bangla Stadium.

CA chief James Sutherland warned last week that unless the drawn-out negotiations over a revenue-sharing deal produced a compromise by early this week, he would take the matter to arbitration and let the industrial umpire resolve it.

However, the ACA has won the right to keep that arrangement in place, meaning the players will share AU$500million among them, which is 30 per cent of the forecast revenue of AU$1.668billion for the five-year period of the new agreement. "It's the result of a sensible compromise from both parties. Under the terms of the new "modernised" deal, players will share around $500m of revenue over the next five years - an increase of almost $120m".

"The prospect... comes with a Test series in Bangladesh next month in increasing danger of not going ahead and with Australia desperate to avoid the commercial and reputational fallout that would accompany having to pull out of a short-form tour of India in October", says The Age.

The widening gulf between the players and the association compelled Australian Cricketers Association Commercial Manager, Tim Cruickshank, to visit India for "commercial opportunities" for the players.

"In announcing this agreement we are restoring certainty, beginning to fix relationships, especially with the fans".

"Success in this negotiation for the ACA was achieving revenue sharing for all players, gender equity, fair remuneration increases, greater input on scheduling and more grassroots investment".

The standoff has been rumbling for months, rattling the game and badly straining players' relationship with the governing body. "We want the focus to be back on the cricket", he added.
