Merkel heckled twice in one day as she defends refugee policy

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has reaffirmed Tuesday the EU's commitment to a refugee deal with Turkey, despite recent political disagreements between Ankara and European capitals.

"The sanctions will be canceled when the cause is eliminated", Merkel told reporters at an annual summer press conference, Sputnik International reports.

Support for Merkel's Christian Democratic-led bloc declined 1 percentage point to 38 percent while her main opponent, the Social Democrats led by challenger Martin Schulz, also fell 1 point to 23 percent, according to a weekly Emnid poll for Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

Speaking at the Bitterfeld-Wolfen rally, Merkel made clear that despite the rise in AfD's popularity, her CDU and coalition partner SPD will not form an alliance with the AfD.

"I take this very seriously", said Dr Merkel.

She further said that they are passing through a very complex period in relations with Turkey. During the 2016 state elections, after almost 1 million migrants arrived in Germany in 2015, AfD attracted 31.9 percent of the votes in Saxony-Anhalt. "And if I can do that, then I can win the parliamentary elections", he said.

The five countries first introduced the checks as a record wave of refugees and migrants from Syria and other Middle East countries and from Africa streamed across Europe.

"You've raised the issue of the rule of law in Poland - that's a serious issue because the requirements for cooperation within the European Union are the principles of the rule of law".

But Schulz said he was putting his hope in the 46 percent of people who had still not decided whom to vote for. She also commented that Moscow has to cease its actions against Ukraine and that the economic benefits would be good or both Russian Federation and Germany.
