The East Shore District Health Department says those mosquitoes were trapped on July 31 in the Cedar Pond area.

Symptoms typically take five to 15 days to develop.

Public health says residents with standing or stagnant water on their property should drain it on a regular basis, including bird baths, old tires, pails, toys and wheelbarrows, to avoid breeding areas.

Symptoms experienced by about 20 to 30 percent of people infected with the West Nile Virus are similar to the flu, including fever, headache, body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash and swollen glands. The symptoms of neurologic illness can include headache, high fever, neck stiffness, disorientation, coma, tremors, seizures, or paralysis. Most people with this type of West Nile virus recover completely, but fatigue and weakness can last for weeks or months.
