14 dead, several injured in Finland's Turku city knife stabbing

Stabbings in the Finnish city of Turku that left two people dead and injured eight others are being treated as acts of terror, Finland Police said.

Finnish police are treating a stabbing attack that killed two and injured eight others as terrorism.

An 18-year-old Moroccan is being charged with the crime, police said in a statement on Saturday.

The tabloid Ilta-Sanomat reports that one man and five women were injured, including a woman pushing a stroller.

The man has been taken into custody after being shot in the leg, police say.

Police are looking for more potential suspects urging people to avoid the city centre.

The suspect's "identity is known to the police".

The country's president, Sauli Niinisto, visited Turku later Friday and condemned what he called a "shocking and cowardly act".

Both sides have used hostile rhetoric, with President Donald Trump threatening " fire and fury " on the North. Despite expecting further missile testing, Mr Pompeo denied there is an imminent threat of nuclear war.

Two people have died in a knife attack in Turku, Finland, that took place on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017.

Helsingin Sanomat, for example, reported that the police conducted a house search in Varissuo, a residential district located less than ten kilometres east of the centre of Turku.

A journalist saw the whole episode whose name is Wali Hashi, told during an interview that a group of people chased the accused man, who was yelling "God is great" in Arabic. "We understood he had stabbed someone", she told Finnish broadcaster YLE.

Translated from Finnish, he wrote: "The Government will closely monitor the situation and the ongoing police operation in Turku".

Turku lies on Finland's southwest coast about 160 km (100 miles) west of the capital Helsinki.

Finland also raised its emergency readiness across the country after the stabbing, increasing security at airports and train stations and putting more officers on the streets.

The stabbing spree comes hot on the heels of two deadly vehicle ramming attacks in Catalonia which left 14 people dead and some 100 others injured.
