US Navy Ship Fires Warning Shots at Iranian Vessel in Arabian Gulf

The U.S. Navy fired warning shots at a patrol boat this morning reportedly belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in the Persian Gulf.

Defense officials confirmed the incident happened earlier Tuesday as the Iranian boat approached and came within 150 yards of the Navy ship.

"[The] USS Thunderbolt fired warning flares and sounded the internationally recognized danger signal of five short blasts on the ship's whistle, but the Iranian vessel continued inbound", the navy said.

The USS Thunderbolt fired shots from.50-caliber machine gun, according to Fox News.

The Cyclone class coastal patrol ship USS Thunderbolt (PC 12) transits along other PCs during an exercise in the Arabian Gulf.

The Iranian ship stopped, but remained in the area for several hours.

Numerous victims looked to be in their 20s and 30s, and there were also apparently two school-age children, the police chief said. Durbin also said federal investigators will work with San Antonio police to identify those responsible.

The USS Thunderbolt fired warning shots at an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vessel Tuesday after the vessel failed to heed to other requests and warnings to halt.

The revolutionary Guards are an elite army of the iranian regime, created in 1979 by the Ayatollah Khomeini.

The force's boats periodically approach U.S. warships in worldwide waters and the Strait of Hormuz, ignoring United States radio messages and giving little indication of their intentions.

Pentagon spokesman US Navy Capt. Jeff Davis previously told reporters that there had been 35 incidents of unsafe or unprofessional behavior by Iranian vessels in 2016, although the "vast majority" had occurred in the first half of that year.

"The boat of the navy of iran was approaching at high speed".

The IRGC called blamed the US for the "provocative and unprofessional" incident in a statement carried by Iranian state owned Press TV.
