New Britain's Manafort Called To Testify Before Senate Judiciary Committee

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee says he's sending a letter to Donald Trump ask him to testify.

"My motive for bringing him to the committee is because of other involvements with whether or not the Foreign Agent Registration Act has been adequately enforced by this administration and by the Obama administration because I think it's been lackadaisical enforcement and he would be an example of that lackadaisical enforcement", Grassley said, as reported by the Des Moines Register.

Grassley suggested Trump's son would 'welcome the opportunity, ' as the president's namesake was dragged into the Russia scandal this week, as he revealed emails in which an intermediary told him the Russians wanted to give the Trump campaign dirt on the president's political rival, Hillary Clinton.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a member of the committee, said it was "long overdue" that Manafort be called to testify.

His panel is investigating Russian meddling in the US election. Trump Jr. said the meeting "really went nowhere" and that he never told his father about it because there was "nothing to tell".

In response to calls for him to testify before the intelligence panel, Trump Jr. tweeted Monday that he was "happy to work with the committee to pass on what I know".

"It is unclear how she was still in the country for that meeting, despite being denied a visa beforehand and her parole purportedly expiring on January 7, 2016", Grassley wrote, according to a statement and copy of the letter released Wednesday.
