MS faces turbulent period with interim coach

University of MS head football coach Hugh Freeze resigned Thursday night, effective immediately, after school officials questioned him about his personal conduct. This included beating Alabama, twice and bringing the Rebels to two New Year's Six bowls - a stunning end to a once-promising tenure. They went after Freeze for failure to monitor his program, an allegation the school passionately denied in its response.

"While Coach Freeze served our university well in many regards during his tenure, we simply can not accept the conduct in his personal life that we have discovered", Ole Miss chancellor Jeffrey Vitter said at a press conference. "As of yesterday, there appeared to be a concerning pattern", Bjork explained.

Bjork said the school's investigation started last week after an outside Freedom of Information request revealed a concerning phone call that lasted less than a minute.

Freeze went on the record about the phone call to Yahoo!

The university announced Freeze's resignation Thursday night. "The team is the focus right now", Bjork said. "There will be a lot of time to conduct a search for a permanent head coach".

"I think with a large portion of Ole Miss people, they know who I am, but there's no question that it's been negative in some people's eyes", Freeze said.

Frontier adds flights from TF Green to 6 new cities
Tickets to Cincinnati, Orlando and San Jose will not be available until October. Frontier had previously served Will Rogers, but left the market two years ago.

For now, it'll be up to interim head coach Matt Luke to hang on to those committed and keep trying to sell that Ole Miss is a worthwhile destination. Rebel fans will always remember the day the goalposts came down at the Vaught, the day Ole Miss walked into Tuscaloosa and took down the Tide, and of course, the day the Rebels hoisted the Sugar Bowl trophy in January 2016.

Freeze, 47, had a 39-25 record in five seasons at MS, including a 5-7 record in 2016.

"I've got no idea, to be honest", Freeze said.

University leadership has supported Freeze throughout the NCAA investigation, disputing numerous charges and denying that he had any knowledge of various accusations related to booster activity and payment of players. Bjork said that Freeze will receive no buyout on his contract.

Wayne County High School head coach Todd Mangum has another 2018 Ole Miss commit: defensive tackle Quentin Bivens. If not and the product on the field suffers, and in turn recruiting continues to wither, we could be looking at an extended rebuild for a team that had built a roster capable of competing with (and beating) the best of the SEC. Getting Freeze out is Nutt's biggest coaching win in years. Ole Miss is facing 21 accusations from the NCAA about improper recruiting.

Freeze's predecessor, Houston Nutt, is suing Ole Miss. Soon after, Tech and Ole Miss became his top choices.
