Venus Williams out; French Open to have 1st-time Slam champ

At the Australian Open final in January, when she reached the final and lost out to sister Serena, Venus proved her game and confidence are in good nick.

Bacsinszky, the only woman to have reached the Roland Garros quarter-finals in 2015, 2016 and 2017, will face local favourite Kristina Mladenovic in the last eight after she eliminated defending champion Garbine Muguruza.

Venus Williams' chances of adding a first French Open title to her collection of seven Grand Slams faded on Sunday after the 36-year-old was beaten 5-7 6-2 6-1 by Swiss Timea Bacsinszky in the French Open fourth round. She's one of the best players at the moment at the race, as well, like Venus.

The 31-year-old Nadal is chasing his 15th Grand Slam title and first since 2014 - when he won at Roland Garros.

Mladenovic broke down in tears during her post-match speech to the crowd as they yelled her nickname, "Kiki, Kiki".

The only other two women with a Grand Slam trophy on their resumes who made it to the fourth round - Svetlana Kuznetsova and Samantha Stosur - lost earlier Sunday to women without one.

"I'll just keep it simple", Williams said. And as Muguruza walked to the locker room after her defeat, she wagged a finger toward the stands as if to say, "Tsk, tsk!" You give me the courage and strength to keep going in every point.

Woman who raped and murdered three girls is volunteering at school
She was released in 2005 and married the brother of her attorney, with whom she has multiple kids, according to reports. Rodney Stafford tells CHCH that the fact that Homolka is allowed to volunteer at a school is unacceptable.

"My hand's been sore for about three or four days, since the day I played doubles here", Stosur told AAP.

"I've been wanting to be in this position in these Grand Slams for a long time now".

The second-seeded Pliskova hit 34 winners as she raced to a 7-5, 6-1 victory in 70 minutes.

When the women's champion is crowned at Roland Garros on Saturday, she will be a first-time Grand Slam victor. But especially on clay, I've never passed the second here. Nonetheless, Bacsinszky got off to a flying start in the second set by breaking Williams' serve immediately. "But still there are some things that I want to improve and that I want to play better". The 30th seed only needed one as she finished the match with a delightful drop shot victor.

Next up against Nadal is 20th-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta, who knocked off No. 5 Milos Raonic 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (6), 6-4, 8-6.

"It was very odd match, because she was playing good and I was playing OK, but I think today was enough", Svitolina said. "But for the rest, you know, my game was I showed today was enough, and I was very happy that I could finish in two sets". But it wasn't much of an upset, as she fell to 11th seed Caroline Wozniacki in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
