Southwest flight diverted after woman attempts to open door

Southwest Airlines confirmed in a statement that Flight 4519 was diverted to Corpus Christi International Airport after flight attendants notified the captain of a "potential threat" in the cabin.

Michew detained the woman and subdued her until the plane was able to land safely.

Passenger Henrietta Mokwuah told news station ABC13 that after pacing up and down the aisle, the woman "tore off a piece" of the emergency exit door.

Kirsty Gillentine wrote that an off-duty police officer had stopped an "erratic passenger from allegedly trying to open emergency exit". When she moved towards the door, she was restrained by another passenger. In the video, the woman is apparently walking backwards.

A Cleveland ISD police officer, Pamela Michew, was on board the flight and was traveling with her children from Sacramento.

"She had no choice but to identify herself as a law enforcement officer and take immediate action", he said.

South Korea's Sports Minister Do Jong-hwan raised the prospect working with North Korea in an effort to boost friendship. The Games are to be held in PyeongChang, which is just 40 miles from the demilitarized zone separating North from South.

Daniel Gonzales said on Twitter: "I'm on this flight!"

"Following an uneventful landing, local authorities met the aircraft at a gate and removed the disruptive passenger", the airline said.

The Southwest flight from Los Angeles was delayed in Corpus Christi for about two and a half hours before touching down in Houston.

Passengers who witnessed the incident were held aside for questioning, while others waited in the airport ate Domino's pizza provided by the pilot.

"The rest of the passengers cheered when the off-duty officer came back on board", after the woman was removed, Gillentine told the newspaper.

Because the incident happened in the air, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
