"Earlier today, I authorized our special forces with the support of our worldwide partners to conduct a strike against an al-Shabaab training camp near Sakow", read a statement from Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi.

He said: "We must show no mercy in dealing with al-Shabaab".

The military said the strike targeted a command and logistics portion of an al-Shabab camp.

He said such attacks would disrupt the group's ability to conduct new attacks within Somalia. Al-Shabaab has also increased its combat capability by seizing heavy weaponry, armored vehicles, explosives, small arms, ammunition, and other miscellaneous supplies during its operations overrunning Burundian National Defense Forces FOB Leego, Ugandan People's Defense Force FOB Janaale, and Kenyan Defense Force FOB Ceel Ad.

The terrorist organization once controlled the capital Mogadishu, but was pushed out in 2011.

In March Donald Trump repealed Obama-era restrictions on drone bombings in Somalia.

A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the U.S. attack was made using a drone.

"The six had been dispatched from Burhanche in Somalia by their commanders to launch attacks in Kenya", Boinnet said.

The US military has been training African Union and Somali forces in the country.

The people that have fought Al- Shabaab for 12 years are sidelined in all operations, this in itself will galvanize them with the people being quarantined from Mogadishu to the rural areas where the al- Shabaab have their bases.

"We promise that al-Shabaab won't get away with this".
