Senate panel eager to hear from Comey, given OK to testify

The committee served three intelligence agencies with subpoenas, requesting evidence of unmasking requests of Americans by three Obama-era officials: former White House National Security Advisor Susan Rice, former CIA Director John Brennan, and, most surprising, former United Nations ambassador Samantha Power.

Names of certain Trump campaign officials were allegedly unmasked, or revealed, in classified intelligence reports regarding their communication with Russian agents.

A retired US Army lieutenant general and former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Flynn was a top adviser to Trump during his run for president.

Meanwhile, Cohen, Trump's personal attorney, told the AP that he turned down a request for information from the House intelligence committee looking into the Russian interference.

But tonight, the House erupted over a total of seven subpoenas (including the above and three for "unmasking"), which were signed by GOP House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes.

After Flynn's lawyers rejected the committee's initial subpoena for personal records detailing any and all communications Flynn had with Russian officials, committee leaders turned to his businesses, arguing, in the words of vice chairman Mark Warner, D-Va., that "a business does not have the right to take the Fifth".

Former FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump fired last month, could testify as early as next week and planned to confirm the president's pressure to drop the agency's investigation into Flynn, according to CNN.

The teams will also hone messaging on the Russian Federation probe, CBS News' Steve Chaggaris reported. Seemingly unable to control the leaks within his own White House , Mr.

Flynn's reported acquiescence comes less than a week after his attorneys said their client would not comply with the Committee's May 10 subpoena and just hours after President Donald Trump's personal business attorney Michael Cohen's wow of non-compliance with Congress was met with the issuance of a subpoena by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Unmasking requests are not uncommon, said Charles Price, a former FBI agent who worked at the bureau for almost three decades.

The committee has ordered lawyer Michael Cohen and security adviser Michael Flynn to appear before them and supply documents.

Regarding the unmaskings, the subpoenas have gone to the National Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Central Intelligence Agency.

"You don't issue a subpoena unless you haver a good-faith bases to believe the documents you're asking for exist", he told Fox News host Martha MacCallum. Mr. Brennan, Ms. Rice and Ms. Power didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

Flynn's cooperation was the first signal that he and the Senate panel have found common ground. Flynn communicated with Russian officials while an adviser to President Trump's campaign and transition, and discussed US sanctions against the country with those contacts. Calls and emails to Kasowitz's NY firm were not immediately returned Wednesday.

Sessions later admitted having the meetings but said they were part of his Senate duties and were unrelated to the campaign.
