McCain urges fast House vote on Russia sanctions

He hailed the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a popular force fighting against terrorism and supporting the people of Palestine, Iraq and Syria, saying the Senate's move to apply terrorism-related sanctions to the IRGC lays bare the United States' "evil nature".

Over a minute had passed since Vargas' exuberant celebrations when the on-field referee signalled the goal had been chalked off.

Rep. Eliot Engel of NY, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said he's concerned that sending the sanctions bill to the committee will give the Trump administration an opportunity to weaken legislation.

Strong didn't say how long the committee's review would take or whether changes to the sanctions bill are anticipated.

CRIEEA would also effectively codify into law various Executive Orders issued by the Obama administration in order to impose sanctions against various Russian government officials and business entities involved in Russia's occupation of the Crimea region of Ukraine, certain sectors of the Russian economy (such as Russia's financial and oil production sectors) and government officials, agencies and other parties involved with the Russian government's malicious cyber activities.
