Kvitova into Aegon Classic final

Kvitova into Aegon Classic final

The Queenslander progressed to a last-four appointment with French Open victor Garbine Muguruza after Italian Camila Giorgi retired when trailing 2-5 with a groin strain. But she double-faulted twice when she was trying to close out the match at 5-3 in the second set.

Benefiting from the injury retirement of Italian Camila Giorgi, Australia's Ashleigh Barty also made it through to the final four of the Wimbledon warm-up, although compatriot Daria Gavrilova wasn't so fortunate, falling to Lucie Safarova in three sets. The hand is good, which is the best news which I can have, and I am not feeling any pain, and that's the best news.

It is only Muguruza's third semi-final of the year and the first on grass since she reached the final of Wimbledon in 2015.

"I didn't really get a look in on her serve in the first set and once I knew I was in with a shot it was a little bit of a different story", said Barty.

"She plays a lot of long matches, and I think she likes them!"

"She is very highly ranked (12) and for me it is only the second tournament in my comeback".

Amazon's purchase of Whole Foods already impacting grocery industry
Whole Foods Market, which has more than 420 stores in more than 40 states in the US , soared more than 29.1 percent to $42.68. In May, under pressure from Jana Partners , Whole Foods replaced five board members and its chief financial officer.

The tournament's other Grand Slam victor, former French Open champion Garbine Muguruza, also reached the semifinals, only her third of the year and the first on grass since she reached the final of Wimbledon almost two years ago.

Kvitova, 27, was leading 6-1 1-0 in the Aegon Classic semi-final when her fellow Czech quit with a leg injury.

"It's fantastic to have (Petra) back on the court", Barty said about facing Kvitova.

Even so her initial comeback in 2016 was interrupted by injury, so this actually her first tilt at a full season. Kvitova continues to be the talk of the tournament given that shes played just six matches in 2017 and all five of her victories have come in straight sets.

It is only Kvitova's second tournament since the seven-month hole which was torn from her career, and this was only her sixth match, yet she has reached her first grass court final since her 2014 Wimbledon triumph. She had been suffering from exhaustion as well as a thigh strain, having played two monster matches in her previous three wins. Safarova tried to play on, but chose to retire giving Kvitova the 6-1, 1-0 win. She'll face Petra Kvitova who is just now coming back to tennis after surviving a knife attack several months ago.

The match turned when Barty broke at 2-2 in the second set after the Spaniard had looked comfortable. "I like getting purchase with my slice on the grass, and I didn't do much wrong". "She's one of the nicest girls and we really missed her".
