Camden tower block evacuated in wake of fatal Grenfell Tower fire

In its most detailed briefing yet on the criminal investigation, the Metropolitan Police on Friday confirmed residents' suspicions that the inferno at Grenfell was touched off by a refrigerator fire.

"Camden Council is absolutely determined to ensure that our residents are safe and we have promised them that we will work with them, continue to act swiftly and be open and transparent", Gould said in a statement.

Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE:WHR) is in hot waters as one of its refrigerators caused the deadly Grenfell Tower fire in London.

It has been suggested the cladding panels helped to spread a blaze at the North Kensington tower, which killed at least 79 people and destroyed 151 homes on June 18.

Camden Council initially said just some 161 households in the Taplow building on the estate were being "temporarily decanted" to allow up to four weeks of work to be done to the building.

She said the decision was made because residents' safety could not be guaranteed.

The council is encouraging residents to stay with friends and family, but promised to provide temporary accommodations, if that weren't possible.

"Although the exterior cladding panels are similar to those reportedly used at Grenfell Tower, the insulation materials behind the exterior panels are different and made from a non-combustible mineral fibre material" he said.

It found a 3 percent increase in collision claims in those states compared with Wyoming, Idaho and Nevada, where it is not legal. A new study found that states with legalized recreational use of marijuana have an increase in accident insurance claims.

Police in London have said that the Grenfell fire started in a fridge freezer, and outside cladding and insulation failed safety tests.

May said Friday that "she will work with and support the emergency services and relevant authorities to safeguard the public".

But they both failed the police's safety tests, which are similar to those being carried out by the United Kingdom government.

Councillor Richard Cornelius, leader of Barnet Council, said removing the cladding from three tower blocks in the area was a "precautionary measure".

McCormack also repeated calls for anyone with information on who might have been in the tower to come forward.

Buildings in London, Manchester and Plymouth are among those where problem cladding has been identified. Early tests of materials used on the building's exterior returned alarming results, she said.

McCormack says: "What we haven't got is a picture of how many people might have been in there".

We are conducting joint visits to the Chalcots Estate with the council and will be visible to residents, who will be able to ask fire safety questions to firefighters. Some of you have even followed through with subscriptions, which is especially gratifying.
