Bill Cosby's legal team attack sex assault accuser's credibility

Cosby is accused of drugging and sexually assaul.

In 2016, after an avalanche of sexual assault allegations and details from depositions during Constand's civil suit against Cosby (he settled with her) were released, Montgomery County prosecutors reopened their case against Cosby and arrested him for indecent assault.

Jurors heard she lost consciousness and awoke to discover him sexually assaulting her, but that the drugs had left her unable to fight him off.

Constand, a 44-year-old massage therapist from Toronto told the Montgomery County Courthouse in Pennsylvania she met Cosby in 2002 while working for the women's basketball team at Temple University in Philadelphia and continued socializing after that.

Constand recorded a subsequent conversation with Cosby that was played for the jury.

"I was leaving in a month, and I did not want to stir up any trouble, and for it to look negative to not talk with a trustee", Constand said.

Constand says Cosby, whom she considered a mentor, plied her with pills and wine before sexually assaulting her on his couch after she sought his advice about moving to Canada and switching careers.

Constand is one of around 60 women who have accused Cosby of sexually violating them but the prosecution has gone ahead on just Constand's allegations due to the statute of limitations passing for almost every other of those claims.

But then the full effect of the pills struck the former college hoops star and she began to feel drowsy.

"I'm not here for that". She initially told officers she had never been alone with Cosby before the night of the incident and that she had largely cut off contact with him afterward, neither of which was true.

Constand said the calls pertained only to Temple women's basketball and stopped once she left the university.

"I trusted him" said Constand during her testimony.

They have also faced each other many times as head coaches, starting in 2000 after Stoops took over at Oklahoma . Still, there will be an adjustment period since the Sooners had the same coach in place for 18 ½ years.

Asked by the prosecution why she waited to report the incident, Constand replied that she did so due to his status as a trustee, an alumnus and a benefactor of athletics programs.

"I wasn't able to", Constand said.

Agrusa has suggested that Constand once enjoyed a romantic dinner by the fire at Cosby's home before the alleged assault.

"I felt that if I had gone to the police, that Mr. Cosby would retaliate and try to hurt me, that he would try to hurt me or my family in some way", she testified.

The 79-year-old Cosby could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.

Cosby arrived in court Wednesday along with his longtime hair stylist John Achison and Achison's wife, actress Sheila Frazier. In that phone call, Cosby asked the mother to get Andrea on the phone and explain what happened because "he wasn't going to tell the truth", Gianna Constand said.

The defense says the relationship with Constand was consensual.

In the courtroom, Cosby sat looking directly at his accuser, frowning and shaking his head at times.

The whole scandal was rekindled in 2014 when comedian Hannibal Buress reportedly accused Cosby of being a rapist during one of his comedy shows in Philadelphia.

Prosecutors on Wednesday said phone records show a consistent pattern of Andrea Constand checking her voicemail and then calling Cosby in the two months after the January 2004 encounter.

"She could go to school", he said.

The jury of seven men and five women appeared riveted to Constand's testimony which lasted about four hours on Tuesday.
