Apple Music enters home speaker market with HomePod

"Apple is a company that deeply cares about music and wants to deliver an audio experience in the home", Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said in an interview with Bloomberg's Emily Chang.

Traditionally, WWDC only sees software updates. Without an Apple speaker, consumers seeking smart home devices may opt both for competing hardware and services like Amazon Prime and Google Play Music. In addition, Siri on the HomePod can help you answer some of your most burning questions like, "What's the best Korean barbecue restaurant nearby?" or "Did the Warriors win last night?"

The HomePod will use its internal microphones to pick up voice commands and uses the same processor chip as the iPhone to pump out "spatially aware" sound, Apple said.

Apple reinvented portable music with iPod and now HomePod will reinvent how we enjoy music wirelessly throughout our homes. Apple has the advantage of using advanced automatic room-sensing technology that allows HomePod to quickly learn its position in a room, whether it's in a corner, on a table or in a bookshelf.

OECD Says Global Growth 'Better But Not Good Enough
The latest forecast is a marginal improvement on OECD's March forecast which put forward a 3.3% global growth rate. The Bank of England said last month that its expects inflation to peak at 3 per cent later this year.

The company, however, did not show off the speaker's Siri-enabled features Monday, saying it would release more information at a later date. If you have two HomePods in the same room, the two automatically detect and balance each other. Introduced at Apple's WWDC 2017 conference, the 178mm tall speaker is created to work with an Apple Music subscription, and will go head to head with Amazon's Alexa ecosystem and Google Home this December. Shipments of intelligent home speakers surged almost 600 per cent year-over-year to 4.2 million units in the fourth quarter, with Amazon taking about 88 per cent share and Google 10 percent, according to consultant Strategy Analytics. Its entry into digital-music sales with iTunes, and into the smartphone market with the iPhone, upended those industries and gave them mass appeal.

It also announced a new 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro that's faster and more powerful than existing models with more memory and storage, which will go on sale next week and start at $649. Set to start shipping in December, the tech conglomerate aims to outdo competitors with its already established technology called Siri, the personal assistant computer program integrated on most of Apple's iPhones.

"New indoor maps of areas like malls and airports indicated that Apple might be laying groundwork to display information over images of those places in the future". The update will be available in the fall. It will then enter other worldwide markets in 2018. Apple also announced a new translation service in Siri between English, Chinese and the four most popular European languages. Amazon dominated shipments in the three months through December, selling 88 percent of the 4.2 million smart speakers sold globally in that period.
