USA admiral: North Korea's actions 'recipe for disaster'

The missile on Sunday was deliberately fired on a "lofted" trajectory - reaching more than 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles), which is higher than satellites in low Earth orbit - to test re-entry capabilities and place its "splash zone" in the open Pacific.

South Korea and the USA are now building a data-link system to share information gathered by the US -controlled THAAD radar and the Green Pine missile defense radar operated by the South Korean military.

She said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is "paranoid" and thinks that the United States is trying to promote regime change and that there are people trying to assassinate him.

A spokesman of North Korea foreign ministry said that Pyongyang "categorically and totally rejects the UNSC's statement which called into question its bolstering of nuclear deterrence for self-defense", according to the Korean Central News Agency.

Ms. Haley also said that the USA would be identifying countries that still supplied and supported North Korea and could target them for sanctions.

He also called on all United Nations member states to honour their obligations under Security Council resolutions on sanctions on North Korea. China is North Korea's main ally at the United Nations and has in the past advocated for direct negotiations rather than economic and military punishment. The UN Security Council has unanimously condemned North Korea's latest missile test and warned of new sanctions, BBC reports.

Speaking to reporters ahead of a closed-door meeting of the 15-member U.N. Security Council on the missile launch, Haley made clear that Washington would only talk to North Korea once it halted its nuclear programme.

"We will make sure that everyone knows who you are and we will target those sanctions towards you as well".

The Security Council, which has imposed six rounds of sanctions on the North, discussed possible further action at Tuesday's meeting.

"We are willing to talk, but not until we see a total stop of the nuclear process and of any tests there", Haley said.

"We don't have it done yet", she said.

"We can not be in a "wait and see" mode until the next provocation occurs, " said France's Ambassador François Delattre.

"The conversations that I have had.in dealing with Beijing is that if (North Korea) did something else and if it looked to be long-range, which this does, and if it looks like it is proactively leaning toward an ICBM, which it does, then we would take action", Haley said.
