Sea Lion Drags Girl Into Water After Family's 'Reckless Behavior'

She said bacteria from a sea lion's mouth might cause an infection and she may need treatment.

Footage of the Saturday encounter shows a sea lion eating bread that a family was tossing into the water.

"Thank goodness the young lady wasn't hurt, but let it be a warning to everybody: Do not do this", Bob Baziuk, a spokesman for the Steveston Harbour Authority, told ABC News.

The reign of terror perpetrated by wild animals on unsuspecting Chinese tourists continued over the weekend with a young girl being pulled into the water of a Canadian harbor by a hungry sea lion.

Andrew Trites, the director of UBC's Marine Mammal Research Unit, does not blame the animal for its behaviour in the video.

The signs at the docks even warn that sea lion bites "can cause very serious infections that may lead to amputation of a limb or even death".

Will Smith, Almodovar open a testy Cannes Film Festival
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings hit back with a post on Facebook, saying: "The establishment [is] closing ranks against us". There are 12 female-directed films in this year's 54-strong official selection, including three in competition.

A man jumped into the water to save the girl.

A man quickly jumped into the water to rescue her and lifted her out of the water and away from the sea lion.

"They were pretty shaken up, " Fujiwara said. As you can see in the video below the crowds were thrilled to get to see the sea creature up close but the excitement soon turned to terror when the sea lion made an unexpected move. "Her family was just in shock". They are huge animals.

"When we see performing animals, like at the circus, we get false information about whether animals like to be around people". In the video, you can hear people laughing and whistling at sea lion and holding their hands over the water, as if they were holding a treat.

California sea lions often visit the area on their migratory cycle, hoping for handouts from fisherman, he said.

"It's not Sea World, it's a place where you buy fish". Following the incident, marine experts and port officials have asked visitors and other public, in general, to keep a safe distance from animals.
