RSS man killed by 'CPI(M) workers' in Kerala, BJP seeks AFSPA

The Kerala police have taken into custody three people suspected to be involved in the murder of an RSS worker in Kerala's Kannur on Friday.

The RSS worker, Choorakkad Biju, in his early 30s, is the 12th accused in the murder of CPI (M) worker Dhanaraj, that took place near Payyanur here in July previous year. Ramanthalli native Binoy, the owner of the Innova auto used by attackers, has also been taken into custody. The police have lodged a case against seven CPM workers in connection with Biju's murder. The killers knocked down the motorbike of Biju with the auto before hacking him to death.

"The increased spate of murders of Swayamsevaks in Kerala under the CPM regime affirms the government's conspicuous role in political killings", the RSS said in a statement, reacting to yesterday's murder.

The killing is the first incident of political violence since January's "peace talks" between the leaders of the ruling CPI (M) in Kerala and BJP-RSS in Kannur.

Alleging the BJP was threatening Governor P Sathasivam for not toeing its line, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the the demand for invoking AFPSA in Kannur will not be accepted by anyone with common sense.

Leaders including O Rajagopal met the Governor to request him to impose Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in Kannur. Twenty two CPI (M) members were accused in the case, and 8 workers were arrested in 2016 for the murder of Ramachandran.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh condemned the murder of an RSS worker in Kannur, Kerala on Saturday and the murder politics of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
