Nissan Wants to Stop Distracted Driving With Its Signal Shield technology

"Once a mobile phone is placed in the compartment, the Nissan Signal Shield creates a 'silent zone, ' blocking all of the phone's incoming and outgoing cellular, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connections", Nissan explained. It's a very serious problem and despite genuine efforts to tackle the issue, there are only so many ways that you can police the behavior of someone behind the wheel.

Further, drivers can make phone calls via Bluetooth without touching their phones if they just open the compartment, Dominic Vizor, a spokesman for Nissan, said.

RAC road safety spokesperson Pete Williams said: "Our research shows that handheld phone use by drivers has reached epidemic proportions".

"The Nissan Signal Shield is a good example of a technology that can help drivers be phone smart". Nissan didn't go into many details, but we guess music content needs to be saved directly on the smartphone, so no streaming while driving, friends. And if you do text and keep your social media updated whilst driving, you deserve nicking.

NFL's wild opening round could yield more surprises on Day 2
He led Clemson to the national title past year and with a good training camp, he could end up starting for the Texans. The 21-year-old defensive end was seen as the top star in the Draft , and was picked by the Cleveland Browns.

This is, of course, a choice; drivers will be able to choose whether or not they put their phone into the compartment and they'll also have the choice to take it out again. Nearly a third of drivers in the same age group said they do this several times a week at least.

Nissan has released details of a new prototype it created to help drivers keep their mind on the super unsafe and highly complicated task of driving, which is the only thing they should be paying attention to when behind the wheel of many thousands of pounds of high-speed metal and combustible gas.

With stricter penalties being imposed for handling a phone while behind the wheel, British drivers are now more likely to be caught if they decide to pick up their device. Half of those surveyed also agreed the role of phones was even overlooked in fatal crashes, which now account for around 20 fatalities a year. A recent study confirmed that even using a hands-free system can be just as distracting for drivers as holding the phone to the ear, not to mention texting while driving.
